Larry Wayne Rooker, Sr.
Larry Wayne Rooker, Sr., 74, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Tuesday, April 04, 2016 at Halifax Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth R. Quay.
Mr. Rooker, a native of Halifax County, was born July 21, 1941 to William Henry Rooker and Rebecca Carroll Rooker. He was a 1959 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School where he played football and baseball. He taught karate for many years and was a 5th degree black belt. Mr. Rooker loved cooking, gardening, fishing, hunting and dancing at the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gaston. He worked as an electrician and EMT at Champion International Paper Company where he retired after 40 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Aline Stokes Rooker; his three sons, Larry W. Rooker Jr. and his wife, Lynn of Roanoke Rapids, Howard Rooker and his wife, Chris of Roanoke Rapids, and Russell Rooker and his wife, Julie, also of Roanoke Rapids; four sisters, Lucy R. Scott of Littleton, Carolyn R. Boucher of Littleton, Jean Jones and her husband, Tom of Gaston, and Faye Rooker of Roanoke Rapids; brother, Ray Rooker and his wife, Kathy of Roanoke Rapids; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rooker Smith and her husband, Kevin, Jacob Rooker, Justin Rooker, Candace Rooker, Cory Rooker, Melissa Rooker; and one great-grandson, Kevin Ayden Smith.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services.
